Phil Campbell, Tharptown earn couple of wins

Phil Campbell 6, Red Bay 4

The Phil Campbell Bobcats held off a late Red Bay comeback last week to defeat the Tigers 6-4. Phil Campbell held a 6-1 lead going into the sixth inning, but Red Bay scored one run in the sixth and two in the seventh before falling short.

Phil Campbell scored first in the top of the first inning on a Leeah Jackson single scoring Caitlyn Mills. The Bobcats picked up two more in the top of the second inning, when Mills hit a line drive triple into right field scoring Olivia Knight. Jackson doubled the next at bat, scoring Mills for the second time to give Phil Campbell a 3-0 lead.

The Tigers picked up their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Morgan Pierce doubled in Annaliese Rogers to make the score 3-1.

Phil Campbell extended their lead to 6-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Brittany Roberson singled in Jackson, who had reached on a double. Jade Roberson scored on a bases-loaded walk. Knight hit a line drive single to score Kenner Scott.

Red Bay scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning – Pierce singled in Lila Blackburn. The Tigers picked up two more runs in the seventh when Victoria Rodriguez singled in Autumn Higgenbottom and Rodriguez scored on double by Blackburn.

Jackson led the Bobcats, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Mills had an RBI and scored two runs. Knight reached base three times, had an RBI and scored a run.

For Red Bay, Pierce went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Blackburn went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Tharptown 16, Phillips 4

The Tharptown Wildcats had no problem with area foe Phillips last week, winning easily 16-4. The Wildcats scored five runs in the first inning, one in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth on the way to the win. Phillips committed seven fielding errors in the game.

Tharptown had big nights from seniors Kaylee Bain and Klaudia Harris. Bain went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored four runs. Harris went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored. Ninth-grade speedster Shaylee Wieting scored three runs for the Wildcats as well. Cara Ergle had a three-RBI night.

Lamar County 11, Phil Campbell 1

The Phil Campbell Bobcats fell behind early and couldn’t come back in lopsided 11-1 loss to the Lamar County Bulldogs.

Lamar County score two runs in the top of the first inning. Phil Campbell cut Lamar County’s lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Jade Roberson singled in Jackson. That would be the Bobcats’ lone run.

Phil Campbell committed six errors in the loss.

Colbert Heights 13, Tharptown 5

Colbert Heights built up a big early lead, and the Tharptown Wildcats could never recover, losing 13-5. Colbert Heights held a 10-0 lead before the Tharptown Wildcats could get on the board in the bottom of third inning.

Bain reached base three times, had an RBI and scored two runs. Wieting reached base twice, had an RBI and scored a run. Harris had an RBI and scored a run.
